Early life of Yogesh Kathuniya

Yogesh Kathuniya was born on 3rd March 1997 in Hariyana, India in a middle-class family. His mother’s name is Meena Devi and his father Gyanchand Kathuniya was a soldier in the Indian Army. He is now 24 years old and has a height of 5 feet 10 inches, weighing 68 kg. His nickname is Yogi.

When he was just 8 years old suffered a paralytic attack which left him with coordination impairments in his limbs. It is a rare neurological disorder. It is called Guillain-Barre syndrome, and consequent quadriparesis confined him to a wheelchair in 2006. After 3 years continue physiotherapy Yogesh can stand on his feet and start his education.

He started his education with Army Public high School in Delhi Cantt-10 and go to the KiroriMal College (KMC) – the University Of Delhi for completing the Graduation.

And in KiroriMal College (KMC) in 2017, he starts his para-athlete life. Sachin Yadav general secretary of the student union at Kirori Mal college inspired him to take the para-sports. Sachin Yadav regularly showed the para-athletes` videos to Yogesh and so inspiring Yogesh decided to take it.

After that Yogesh never looked back and focused only on his games. When he was at the KMC, his potential was noticed by several coaches and he soon came under Satyapal Singh at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. A few years later, he came under the guidance of coach Naval Singh.

Yogesh Kathuniya started his athlete life at KMC but with the guidance of coach Naval Singh’s success start to come into his life. Yogesh started to get success first at the domestic level and later at the international level.

He created a world record in the F36 category in his first-ever international competition in 2018 at the Para-athletics Grand Prix in Berlin. He also won a bronze medal in the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai with the best throw of 42.51m which also booked him a Tokyo berth.
